Open Water Swim Lessons and Vacations

The swim vacation is perfect for a solo traveler, a couple, your family or a group of like-minded friends. Together we will create a schedule that takes into consideration your goals for the vacation, time available and length of stay. Flexibility is KEY as the mini-camp can be scheduled during Alaska’s beautiful swimmer months June 15- Sep 1. Swim Fit Alaska offers a combination of private instruction and open water adventure swims in a variety of beautiful Alaska locations.

Session one in the Pool:

Your camp begins with a private 60-minute lesson with plenty of videotaping and analysis. You will experience immediate results and the videos to prove it! For more details, please view Adult Swimming Lesson page.

Session two in Tanana Lakes:

One of Fairbanks few swimmable lakes, with beautiful view of the city! We will begin with a safety talk then head out into the crystal clear waters to work open water skills and drills and improving your technique. Distance covered will depend on comfort level and ability.

Session three:

We can return to the Pool to continue to work on the “new” stroke adding breaststroke and butterfly. Or, if the open-water is calling you, let’s go swim with the fish again! Flexibility is key, so we let’s wait until after the second session to decide what location will work best for you to help you reach your swimming goals.

Session four and/or five:

Let’s go explore a few more amazing open water venues in Fairbanks/ North pole, Alaska.

Adult Open Water Swim Lessons:

Open water lessons are led by Coach Kristina, a World Open Water Swimming Association-certified coach and world-ranked open water swimmer. Lessons run from mid-June through July, depending on lake conditions and water temperatures.

These sessions are ideal for both beginner and advanced swimmers. Focus areas include technique, spotting, endurance, navigation, and building comfort in open water.

Lessons are held at either Tanana Lakes or Chena Lakes.

Child Open Water Lessons:

Children’s open water lessons are held at Tanana or Chena Lakes between June and July, depending on weather conditions and summer scheduling.

Please note: open water lessons are not appropriate for beginner swimmers due to low visibility and the lack of pool walls for support. Children must be able to swim independently without flotation devices and be comfortable swimming with their face in the water.
